NAKURU， Kenya， Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday reiterated his government's decision to withdraw its troops from South Sudan after the UN chief dismissed Kenyan Lt General Johnson Kimani Ondieki as the commander of the UN peacekeeping force in South Sudan.
Presiding over the Kenya Defence Forces officer cadets' commissioning parade in Nakuru county， Kenyatta said Nairobi was committed to regional and global peace but that should not come at the expense of the country's dignity and honour.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday sacked Ondieki， citing his failure to respond to an attack by government soldiers on an aid compound in South Sudan's capital Juba during clashes between rival forces in July.
Kenya's Foreign Affairs Ministry issued a statement one day later， expressing "dismay" over the decision， which it termed unfair.
Kenya said the UN should take the blame for institutional failures.
"What is clear is that UNMISS (UN mission in South Sudan) suffers from fundamental structural and systemic dysfunctionality which has severely hindered its ability to discharge its mandate since its inception，" said the statement.
"Regrettably， instead of addressing these shortcomings directly， the United Nations has instead opted to unfairly attribute them to a single individual in the name of the Lt General Ondieki，" it added.
The statement indicated Kenya would withdraw its 1，229 troops from South Sudan. "It is apparent to the government of Kenya that the continued deployment of its troops in South Sudan is no longer tenable and is inimical to their safety."
President Kenyatta on Thursday reiterated the stand.
"...Peace will not come to South Sudan by blaming a Kenyan commander for the wider failings of the (UN) mission to South Sudan，
"For our part， we will no longer contribute to a mission that has failed to meet its mandate， and which has now resorted to scapegoating Kenyans，" the president said.
He also said that Kenya would not contribute troops to a regional protection force， proposed to be deployed to Juba to boost the UN mission.
An UN inquiry accused Ondieki of failing to respond to the attack on the compound， in which "civilians were subjected to and witnessed gross human rights violations， including murder， intimidation， sexual violence and acts amounting to torture perpetrated by armed government soldiers".
South Sudan has arrested 17 people， including soldiers， for the attack， in which female aid workers were raped.
Renewed fighting erupted in early July between troops led by South Sudan's President Salva Kiir and forces loyal to sacked First Vice President Riek Machar， Kiir's long-time rival， raising fears the country could slide back into civil war. Enditem
